About Emma Hanisch
I’m a science communicator with strong writing skills and an innate sense of curiosity. I’d describe myself as a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to science (and other academic fields): I know a little bit about a lot of different things. My strongest interests tend to be in natural sciences, e.g. ecology, paleontology, geology, astronomy, neuroscience, health, ocean science, climate science, and beyond. I also enjoy discovering history, trying new skills, and exploring the natural world. I love to learn, and I love to share what I learn with others!

I have a decade of experience in communications work, and I’ve created a wide variety of content for lots of different audiences. My styles and methods and topics are all over the place (depending on audience needs and interests), but the underlying core that unites all of my sci comm work is storytelling. Every discovery, every cool fact, every effort to protect a wild place or improve people’s lives — all of these have stories behind them, and I can make those stories impactful, touching, and easy to grasp.
I am staunchly opposed to using generative AI or LLMs in writing, idea generation, communications, or any creative endeavor. While such software may be a useful tool in certain domains of research, it has no place in my work. Everything on this website and in all of my projects was made by me, or by a team of people that included me. Every emdash is there by design.
